Title Broken Symphony:Part Two
Author:saltwatergirl
When your world is crushing down on you, the little glitches that arise from the aftermath seem like mere trembles. They occur restoring the cosmic balance. Which is a contradiction, because how can there ever be, any balance when you have no place in that galaxy? All these questions plagued Clark upon awaking that particular morning. After brushing his teeth, jerking off and taking a shower (while thinking about Lex) he went down the stairs to find his parents sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for him.
There's a certain feeling of unease that hangs in the air when you walk into a room and you know for a fact that your are in trouble for something. It's like a grey heaviness that settles in the pit of your stomach twisting your gut in knots, making you feel instantly ill. And you are about to be called out on to be accountable for your so-called crime. Especially if you have a strict father -like Jonathan Kent, whom all your friends secretly fear even though they will always deny it (Pete anyone?). In a situation like this you have an array of options.
Option 1-pay it cool, "Morning." Clark said brightly as he sat down for breakfast.
"Clark." Jonathan said. "Your mother and I, would like to have a word with you. Can you tell us what this is..." It would have been easier if Jonathan could choke out what 'this' was as he placed the Raymond Weil watch on the table.
Parents know you and at the same time have no idea who you are. They love you but would happily kill to protect you from the world. When you become a teenager you take them from happy parents, who only have the responsibility of taking care of a child. But then you became a teenager, you turn them into worry wonts who now have a young adult, I'm not a boy not yet a man. hee hee , in the house with a voice, opinions and other stuff it's a painful transition that take years to get through. In short when you go through puberty- your parents go through puberty right along with you. So in the Kent household alien becomes you or to be more specific alien became Mr and Mrs Kent.
This leads to: Option 2-avoid the question. Clark stared at it. "How did you find it? You don't trust me, so you have to go through my stuff? "
"Your mother found it while doing your laundry. Would you to explain to us how you came into possession of such an expensive item?"
He couldn't meet his father's eyes, "Dad, it's not what you think." It's everything that you're thinking.
"You've been acting strangely lately ," Jonathan paused. "I wish I didn't have to ask this question, but does Lex Luthor have any thing to do with any of this?"
Option 3- fake a seizure. Okay, maybe not. "I don't know wh--"
"Clark, it's okay, you do know you can talk to us about anything?" Martha said.
"I know that, mom."Anything that doesn't include Lex.
"Martha, would you please give me a moment alone with Clark?" Jonathan said to his wife not taking his eyes from Clark.
Clark shot a pleading look to his mom. Here we go.
"If it's okay with Clark," she said carefully looking from Clark to her husband.
"It's fine." Clark replied staring at the table.
Getting up, she squeezed Clark's shoulder as she walk passed him. Leaving the decidedly icy room.
"Dad, before you say anything I want you to know it's not you what you think. Lex and I aren.t friends any more."
Jonathan could barely suppress a smile. "Clark, it doesn't matter what I think you know better than to accept gifts from a Luthor. I want you to return it."
They were both aware of the fact that Jonathon hadn't asked what the gift was for.
"Dad-"
"No arguments, just return it. Now you better get going, we wouldn't want you to be late for class."
Clark pulled his chair back, getting up heavily and left the house.

Dark mahogany double doors swung open as if by themselves at Luthor Mansion. Signalling the entrance of Lionel Luthor.
"Dad." Lex said, flipping down the screen of his notebook. "What have I done to deserve the pleasure of your presence bestowed upon me?"
"Lex, I thought I knew you better then this. I had to hear from the .chauffer that I'm about to become a grand father." Lionel paused watching Lex frown . "Are you even listening to me?"
"Dad, I would appreciate it if didn't you barge into my office to give me lecturers." Lex began to massage his temples.
Lionel took his black leather gloves off "Son, years ago when I told you 'use protection' along time ago, which part of that didn't you understand?"
"I pretty sure that particular year you would have been a shoo in for Father of the Year."
"Everything I have done it was for you, Lex." Lionel said, almost sounding earnest. Almost. He reach out to touch his son's face.
Lex pulled away. I hate when you do that, pat me down like I'm a pet. "If you are worried about Victoria staying here, then you should know that it's temporary," Lex looked up to met his father's unflattering gaze, "once she has the baby I'm suing her for custody."
"You will kick her out? Isn't that a little cold even for you, Lex?"
"Somebody once said to me," imitating his father's voice: " 'claim what is yours son, despite the consequences. Being decisive is the difference between greatness and mediocrity'"
"Life and death, actually. Lex, I have business to attend to in Denver, can I trust you not to cause anymore undesirable PR in the Luthor name? "
"Trust?" Lex said mockingly "Dad, the only thing you can 'trust' between us is that a man will land on Mercury before we share it in our relationship."
"Ever the optimist." Lionel said as he exited the room.
"Have a safe trip, dad." Lex said from his desk.
Lionel just chuckled.

The dreary buzz of a high school hallway greeted Clark as he made his way to The Torch. The classes he had attended had been boring as usual. The entire time during Economics all he could think about was Lex. How much it hurt not to see him. How he wished that the past two months hadn't happened. Most of all...he wished that would stop anguishing over his upcoming meeting with Lex.
"Hello, stranger." Chloe said when she spied him at the Torch's entrance.
"Hey, Chloe."
"Have you heard the latest? Victoria Hardwick is producing the future heir to the Luthor throne." Chloe said dryly as she pinned a flyer to the wall, "Talk about Wall of Weird material."
"Future heir to the throne? What are you talking about? Do you mean she's."
"Yeah Clark, I figured you could give me the inside scoop on this story since you're such- " rolling her eyes "good friends with Lex?"
"She's pregnant? How do you know?" This couldn't be happening. Lex wouldn't do this to him-could he?
"Hmm, answering a question with a question, good strategy to avoid the question-what's going on?"
"Chloe, Lex and I aren.t exactly in speaking terms." Clark said glumly.
"What happened?" Chloe said sadly.
"Lex lied to me," he said quickly- "it doesn't really matter now."
"Clark, you do know that I'm here for if you ever need to talk?"
"Chloe, friends-" keeping his voice as evenly as he could, "friends fall out all the time."
"But not us?" She said giving him a big smile.
"Never."
"Good."
"I've got to get to class." Clark retrieved his backpack leaving the Torch office. Feeling the sudden urge to get away from Chloe, from this school. From this entire town. Clark's chest hurt as if is heart was tearing it's self apart in his cheat. Then he felt rage slowly building up in his chest. How could Lex do this to him? Why did he throw it all away for that women? His was boiling it felt like volcanic lava. Trying to ignore a group of cheerleaders who were looking at him weirdly Clark rushed into the boys' bathroom which was, (thank God) empty. He headed for the sinks, the tap water felt cool on his face as he washed it. Turning the water off he glanced at his reflection in the mirror. His anguish face stared back at him, without pausing to think he raised his fist slamming it into the mirror. Shocked at his own actions he sped out the locker room, leaving shattered glass scattered over the porcelain basin.

"I want the flowers changed-maybe lilacs- Lex loves lilacs, these violets don't smell pleasant at all. And I want the vase moved to face the windows. I also want white sheets."
"Yes, Miss Hardwick," said the mousy petite women before her. "Have you cleared this with Mr Luthor?"
"Mary, this is my room. I decide how it's looks." Victoria's voice took on a tone. "You do remember what Mr Luthor said to you?"
"Of course, Miss Hardwick."
"Off too work then. Oh, I'm craving some M&Ms have them brought to me after I finish taking my bath. Remember to remove all the green ones."
How many times can on someone say 'I want' in a single minute?Sarah wondered as she walked out the room. How long Lex was going to be able to put up with- with what she secretly referred to as The Slut From Hell, before he saw her for what she is, pampered trash who did not have a soul. Victoria's time as Queen of the Manor was obviously going to came to an end. Judging by the fact she and Lex no longer shared a room- ever since- was it a 8 weeks ago?
"Mrs Mercola, is Lex here?" Said a voice behind her.
"Clark," She turned, "Mr Luthor is currently in the study. He asked not to be interrupted. Was he expecting you?"
"Er, no but.." his hair looking strangely blown as if he been running against a gust of wind.
"Of course." Sarah Mercola said. Lex often did agree to speak with Clark, even if he was busy. "I'm sure he won't mind. Oh, I might need more organic produce with the upcoming party then so do you mind telling Martha to treble the amount that I usually order."
"Yes, Mrs Mercola".
"Thank you." she smiling, the skin around her eyes crinkling up like paper. Then she walked off down the wide corridor
Clark stood still for a moment watching Mrs Mercola's frail frame proceed down the corridor. With his one hand leaning against the cool stone walls. He didn't realise it but he was stalling. Suddenly nervous at the prospect of seeing Lex again. A weeks had passed, since the day they had argued. The day Lex Luthor broke his heart. It strange how days can turn into one as time rushes by, carrying pain from yesterday to today. Day after day of pain constant. A single day had never passed without Lex crossing his mind. Seeing him again would hurt. It would hurt a lot.
Can I bare it? Can I survive this without ending up on my knees begging for my self-respect back?

The rich dark aroma of coffee filled the air, inside the Talon. Huddled together in the back corner two teenage girls were sharing a slice of that day's special, toffee-crumble. Every now and then they would bust out into conspiring giggles, with a fork in (well manicured) hand.
"You're kidding!" said the blond to her red-headed friend, particular loudly, causing Lana Lang to look up from the counter.
"Honey, I kid you not, the lady who baby-sits my little brother said so, what's her name again?"
"The hectically old one? That Mrs Mercola," said the red-head.
"Yeah." The blond replied wiggling a eyebrow.
"Shame on you, she baby-sits your brother little and you don't even know her name?"
The blond shrugged, smiling at her, "She said that Victoria, was practically kicked out from the east-wing."
"Since when?"
"I didn't ask."
"So it is true?"
"Huh uh."
They broke out in fits of laughter.
"Excuse me." said Lana walking towards them. "This is a coffee shop, not the play-ground, the other patrons and I would appreciate if you took your rumour-mill somewhere else."
They turn towards her, "Clare, let's go this place has just got tired." Getting up to leave.
"What's her damage? Does she think this is a library or something?" Lana heard one of them whisper, she scowled at the girls backs, they had no right, talking about people they didn't know.

"Wonders never cease." Lex said. "Clark."
"Lex." he said.
They stared at each other. Tick tock, tick tock, the brass clock in Lex's study steadily counted the seconds with practice ease. Mocking the silence. There is a certain pulse that everything seems to follow. A natural order, a collect pace. Like a beat of a heart, a sudden strained in breathing. A glance that pulls you in with no indication of ever wanting to let you go. Even thou a cool exterior says otherwise. Crowning Lex, as the king of the poker face. He sat still at his desk in staring at Clark intently. In a navy suit, with a white shirt and tie he looked like a successful yuppie, a damn hot one. Clark hesitated his heart sinking to his feet, why the hell was he at Luthor mansion again? Oh, yes he was there to tell Lex off, he was there to tell Lex to shove his expensive gifts (with really cute massage at the back) were the sun doesn't shine and to remind Lex to stay out of his life. So, why all of a sudden was Clark forgetting his mentally rehearsed speech? Don't look at him. Don't get sucked in again Kent, just tell him to fuck off right now and leave, Clark thought gathering his thoughts.
"Lex, I'm so sorry." he said. What did he just say? What did he just do? 'I'm sorry?' No that.s not right! His supposed to be dragging Lex over coals not asking for his forgiveness. "All those things I said to you I don't know what I was thinking." Where did that come from? God I'm a such a sucker.
"Clark you were angry- had every right to be. I've done some pretty unforgivable things in my life, but I never thought I would do them to you."
"I heard about Victoria."
"It was a mistake-"
"I know Lex- it makes sense to me now." A sucker for Lex.
Lex pulled him into a tight embraced. "You don't deserve this Clark."
Sighing into Lex's arms. I'm willing to take what your willing to give.
"I'm so sorry" Lex whispered, his lips brushing across the shell of Clark's ears
"So am I." Clark said as they pulled apart.
"I'm glad you came over,Clark."
"Victoria, is she here?" Dark eyebrows knitted together.
"Yes."
"I have to return to school. I came over return this." Clark pulled the Raymond Weil watch out of his front pocket .
Lex stared at it, "Clark, I would appreciate it, if you would hang on to it, for me?"
"My mom found it and my dad gave me hell for hiding it from them,"
"Then find a better hiding place, Clark". Lex teased.
"Sure." This was happening too fast, there were so many unresolved issues between them. "Lex, where are we?"
"We're in Smallville." Lex said lightly with just the little tinge of amusement.
"Where do we stand?" Where do I stand?
"I can't give you any definite answers right now."
"Oh." Walking backward while indicating to the door, "I better get back to school."
"Clark." calling after him.
"Yeah?"
"I missed you."
"Me too."
-7-
W missed you.' That's all I needed to hear. Clark thought as the doors of Lex's study shut behind him. He walked down the hall, posing to steal a final look at Lex through the stone walls-
"One would think, there was something, on that wall which has got you so captivated."
"I was just leaving." Clark said dryly to Victoria. Why am I even being polite to her?
She stood at the corner of the hallway "Yes, you should" she said, just a touch of venom, "The doctors said a women in my condition should endure any stress, and you Clark Kent are a stress causing factor."
"It's funny you don't look like you have a 'condition' except maybe a mental a condition. And once your out of here, you wouldn't have to see this 'stress causing factor', " he said.
Her lips drew into a line. "You know, I keep asking myself what the hell Lex must see in you? And I draw blanks with out final every time," pausing "I figure it's only a matter of time before you bore the hell out of him," she said, giving him a slow up down look, "it's a given." She tossed dark tresses over her shoulders.
"Lex wants to be with me."
She laughed. "That's the most naove, load of rubbish I've ever heard in my life. Lex doesn't fancy you, he just fancies fucking you."
Clark stepped towards her, "I would appreciate it if you stayed out of my love life."
Who knew brown eyes could ever look this cold. "As long as Lex is in it, that's not going to happen."
"I wouldn't be surprised if you planned all this, to hurt Lex."
"Clark, latex is so fragile," Victoria circled around him. "And Lex has always been so." Clark dwarfed her but Victoria didn't seem to be intimated, as she got close to his half turned face to whisper,"...vigorous." She drew out the word, deep and long. Like nail tracks going up a lover's back at the heat of passion. Pleasurable and painful at the sometime. Gathering droplets of blood.
Clark could feel her warm breathe on his face. Every instinct in him seemed to screamed at him, for him to throw her across the room-immediately. He didn't, he just couldn't. He wanted to hear about all the things she knew about Lex that he didn't. All the details that she was intimately privy too. It was sick but true.
"You wouldn't know about that? Would you Clark? How vigorous he is, how he can make come so hard you feel like you are dying. Like every cell in your body is breaking apart burning into pieces? All you feel is this heat, his heat , crawling all over you. Around you, inside you. Right into your very soul?" And heart.
"There more between Lex and me then that just sex." He sounded lame and he knew it.
"It isn't about sex! It's sex that isn't sex, it's so intensely raw, harshly hot, a boy like you would never understand it" She shook her head. "You will never ever satisfy him Clark." Her words fall on him like cold water, Victoria was smiling, red lips pulled back over gleaming teeth. Clark turned on his heels wanting to put as much distance between himself and her. He could feel her eyes on him like chips of ice burning holes on his back.

Images of plastic bottles and different coloured tubes loaded on the web page before Clark. He was alone in the torch, (for a change). And decided to take advantage of the situation by using the net there. Finding information on what he was looking for, was a breeze even though half the images that appeared in the pop-ups of this particular embarrassed the hell out of him. Knowledge is power they always tell you at school. 'Do your homework and you will always have an unfair advantage over the competition' and 'study hard'. Studying for the subject in front of him was hard alright, Really difficult. He mentally corrected himself-
"Do you suspect we have a pop quiz in history today?" Pete said walking him the Torch.
"Not that I know of," Clark replied as causally as he could as he closed the pages, "why do you ask?"
"I thought you were studying for something, the way you were concentrating so hard on the screen."
Hard, that word again. "Nah, I just looking something up, nothing important." Clark said. Getting up from the table. Lying to everybody was becoming second nature to him.
" 'Kay man, catch you later." Pete said
"Right." He said as about to walk out-
"Hey Clark, by the way, are you still planning to buy the a class ring at the beginning of next week?" Pete asked as he settled in front of the computer.
"Yeah, sure." Clark replied, pausing by the door.
Pete laughed, "I'm sure Mr Kent will love that. I can almost hear him now. You spent what on a piece of worthless garbage?
"Dad knows that this is my decision to make."
"What ever you say, man." Pete said then started typing. Clark knew he had to get this done, pausing to see if anyone in the school hall was looking in his direction. No-one was without a second thought he sped off. In a matter of seconds he found himself in Suicide Slums. He held up the untidily written scrap of paper where he had jotted down the address of the shop he was heading to, "23 Pearson Street, Score Adult Gift Store". Clark really didn't want to go inside but he had no choice, the only other place he could purchase the item he wanted was in Granville at he didn't want to risk the chance of someone from school or (God forbid) someone who knew his parents to see him. Getting the store's location and arriving here had been the easy part, here comes the difficult section: going inside, getting the stuff, paying for it and walking out. Just the thought of it was making his palms sweat. Looking around, apart for a woman across the road waiting for a bus, there was no-one else around. Clark wiped his pal ms on his jeans and walked into the shop.
The inside of the shop was brightly lit, no-one seemed to be shopping any adult entertainment at the moment so that perfectly suited Clark. Trying not to look like a geeky-virgin farmboy, Clark started too walk around, trying to look casual not like he was so totally out of his element like he was). He grabbed a random DVD at looked at the cover, X-Matrix, The Labyrinth of Seduction. Clark though the scantily clad girl on the cover vaguely resembled Erica Fox, a girl from his class. And according to Pete, The Hottest Girl In Smallville High. Nonplussed he placed the DVD back on the rank, he had more important things to attend to. Two isles down he found what he was looking for, the box read, Wet and Wild-The smooth way to enjoy a rough ride. According to maledirectory.com he would need some to do what he was planed to do tonight. Okay, item located. Next step, pay for it. Oh, boy.
The check out guy was chewing loudly on his gum, while listening to ear-blocking horrid, hard-core, metal rock. Clark cleared his throat, "Excuse me." The guy seemed to be engrossed in the magazine he was reading. "Excuse me," Clark knocked lightly on the counter. His hand movement must have caught the guy's attention who then placed his magazine down and lowered the volume of his headphones, "Hello." Clark averted his eyes and thrust the boxed lubricant and the guy.
"Will you be paying cash or credit?"
"Cash."
"That will be $2.66, " Clark pulled a bunch off bills and handed them over.
While hitting the keys of the dashboard the check out guy said, "Do you know if you buy an adult film from Score will receive you a voucher valued at $5," He handed the bagged item to Clark.
"Um, thanks." Clark couldn.t wait to get out. He quickly shoved the bag into his backpack and headed towards the exit. The street was empty, a quick look around confirmed. And there was nothing but a swish of air as Clark took off in lightning speed.
10 seconds had barely passed when Clark arrived back at school when he heard Lana's voice behind him. Clark froze in mid-step for a moment he seriously considered ignoring her. "Lana?"
She rushed towards him, disappearing briefly among a mass of pupils then reappearing again, "Have you seen Lex lately?"
"Why do you ask?"
"I'm just asking, Clark." Lana said defensively, "you're friends with him aren't you?"
Why did everyone always have to make a big deal out of his friendship with Lex. No-on ever said things like, 'But you're friends with Pete.'
"... go to the Mansion all the time." Lana continued. "So I figured you would know why he hasn't been to the Talon lately"
"Can't say I do."
"It's that women isn't it?" She had this way of sounding breathless when she was being earnest, he use to find it strangely endearing. But that seemed like a lifetime go.
"What women? Victoria?"
"Yes!" Lana's voice dropped even lower. At the edge of a whisper. Her eyes half closing as if she was feeling sleepily but she was actually blinking.
Clark frowned, noticing a small smudge of pink lip gloss going over the corner of her lips. It was so unlike Lana to have anything out of place. He reached out, brushing at it absently. "You have something on your..."
"Thanks," she said smiling shyly with other full lidded blink.
Stepping back, "I have to go, see you around." Being around Lana lately was getting strange, like he had to continuously keep acting a role. Playing a part in An American Love Story: the goofy farm boy secretly in love with the girl next door. It's all suppose to end with him sweeping her off her feet the night of senior prom or Lana's Debutante ball (with some other stuff in between of course)The End, to a swell of an orchestra. But the road to that particular fairytale some how hit a mile high road bump the day he meet Lex.

Victoria held the red jacket up in distaste. Obviously the farmboy's talents did not include being fashionable. Just another area that she outshone him. Lex had impeccable taste, the same can't be said for his pouty toy-boy. Today, when she had spoken to Clark, the kitchen curtain that he had been wearing was just the one in many of fashion faux pas. Victoria smiled. This particular item she held was the one Clark had worn the day when Lex and he had groped. Checking in on Lex's progress that day she hadn't believe her luck when she saw that they were no longer in the guest room and she couldn't let the opportunity pass when a saw Clark's clothes just lying around on the floor. With a second thought she had taken them along with the sheets. Since the sheets contained Clark and Lex's body fluids, DNA proof that they had been engaged in sexual behaviour which suited her means just perfectly. Victoria knew Lex better then anyone. If he decided to be play nasty and take the child she was carrying away from her, b y suing for custody after she given birth, she would have a bargaining tool. In that particular situation she would drop line to a friend of hers at The Inquisitor about a certain billionaire who was engaging in sexual acts with a minor the paper would run with the story taking it to print as soon as possible. It was after all front page material. Which would make certain that the public would be informed about Lex's involvement with Clark, not mentioning his poor parents. Who thought that their son was just friends with Lex Luthor then would shockingly realise that Lex Luthor was actually a sexual fiend. Well she wouldn't say that, the media has this way of sensationalizing stories. A story like that would affect LuthorCorp negatively, dropping share prices, ostracizing Lex further with his father, then he will lose custody of their child and have no option but to turn to her, the last person in this world who would be by his side. So, if Lex was smart he would play by her rules. Victoria tossed the jack et along with the trousers and the sheets into a black, refuse plastic, insurance. She may not had been a girl scout, but she knew: always be prepared. That is the key to wining the game.

"Lex?" Victoria said as she sauntered into the study "Are you still working?" Lex looked up from his paperwork wearily.
"What can I do for you, Victoria?"
"Are you still busy, Lex?"
"No, why?" What did she want from him now?
"I thought we could go out for lunch."
"Victoria, I rather not." He said, not looking up from his desk. "How about a rain check."
"Aren't you hungry, Lex?" She circled the table towards him.
There was something suspicious in Victoria's behaviour. Ever since she had sit up residence at Luthor Mansion, at every opportunity she would whinge and whine about being kick out of his bedroom. She seemed to think that she and Lex would somehow resume their relationship where they left off. As is if nothing happened. As if she hadn't plotted to hurt him and Clark and schemed to insinuate herself into Lex's life. Which all lead to Lex losing Clark, his best friend, which what Victoria had wanted to happen in the first place. But part of him knew he was as also to blame for playing in to her hands. It was all so twisted and unforgivable. He dropped the pen he was holding, "Victoria, what do you really want?"
Victoria circled Lex's table to stand behind him, leaning to whisper in his hear, "What isn't about what I want." Lex felt her hand trailing down his chest, slowly. "This about what you need."
He grabbed her hand, "No thanks." Lex said.
Victoria sighed heavily stepping back, "When did it stop being fun between us, Lex?"
"When you decided to ruin my life," he said evenly.
"Is that what you think I did? Ruin your life?" Victoria pulled back, "Love, you did it all on you own."
"Would you get out of my office I've got work to do."
"Why? Is your queer boy coming over?" she crackled "You know Lex, I never thought I'd see the day you became a poncy shirt-lifter."
"And I never thought I'd see the day, you had to resort to that kind of crass language, careful, your roots are showing."
She stood still in dead silence before stomping out the doorway.

Pacing the dark wooden floor of his barn, Clark mentally ticked away the seconds passing by in his head. Anxiously clutching and unclenching his fists. He was waiting for the his watch to say six. Lex had once mentioned to Clark that his usually end of business hour was six in the evening. Something that Clark had taken note of. Glancing at his watch which ten-minutes-to-six briefly wondered if he should wait out the last minutes, Nah, he thought as he as he pressed 1 on his speed dial, Lex's number.
"Hello?"
"Lex, I've thought about this for long time." Clark smiled nervously to himself wondering if Lex could tell how he was nervous from the other line? "And I decided that should. Now is a better time then ever."
"Wait Clark, what are you talking about?"
"Lex, I want to tell you about everything."
"About what?"
"About me."
"Now? Over the phone?"
"No!" not like that Clark thought. "Can you meet me at midnight, tonight?"
Lex was intrigued. "Yeah, I'll pick you up." But then everything about Clark Kent intrigued him.
"Hum er Lex, I would prefer to pick you up at the mansion's gates?"
This was getting interesting. "Anything you want, Clark."
"Thanks, Lex .bye
"Bye, Clark."
Yes! Clark was now pumped with nervous energy, oh damn I forgot something.
Lex's phone rang again, "Yes, Clark?"
"Lex, would you mind bringing a sleeping bag and a blanket?"
"Okay." Lex said, Clark, there's never is a dull moment with you.
"Okay." Clark echoed.
-12-
Jonathan drew the curtain back. He hadn't been mistaken, Clark was driving away in the truck. Were the hell was he going in the middle of the night? Probably to meet Lex to do God knows what in the middle of the night, he reckoned. Ever since Clark had meet the younger Luthor he had stopped acting like himself. The Clark that he and Martha knew didn't keep secrets from them. Lately they had seen, how withdrawn Clark had become, Clark didn't get excited over things that he used to enjoy. Instead he had spent a majority of his time moping in the barn when he arrived from school. They hadn't wanted to hassle him so Jonathan had given Clark his space and waited for him to come to him and disclose what ever dilemma was ailing him. Weeks went by and Clark grew more distance. And still he didn't speak with Jonathan. Then the discovery of the watch. There had to be a connection. Jonathan stood momentarily in the darkness of his bedroom listening to Martha's breathing. Unease was gnawing at his chest, the thought if w hat his son might be caught up in. What Lex Luthor a grown man might be manipulating his teenage son into doing. He began to pace the room, suddenly filled with nervous energy. Perhaps he was wrong. Lex was rich after all, the watch could have been a random gift handed to Clark to impress him. Jonathan would have been willing to let this go if he hadn't happened to turn the watch over. 'A sight for sore eyes'. What did that mean? Probably some secret code for something sinister, Luthors where sly in that way. Jonathon tried not think about what Clark must have done to earn such an extravagant gift, then he felt compelled to hide it. Jonathan was willing to admit that it was the fact that Clark had to the hide it from him that really irritated him. For every rat you see in the yard there's hundreds more hidden in the barn, his father use to say to him. Jonathan clenched his fists. Could Clark have lied to him, when he said that he and Lex weren't friends anymore? When in fact they where? I better be wrong or there will be hell to pay.

At fifteen minutes to twelve that evening, Clark truck arrived at the Mansion gates Lex couldn't help but chuckle when he saw the truck.
"You're early." Lex said to him.
"And your waiting for me. outside?"
"It's a warm night."
"Did you bring what I asked for?" Clark said noticing the rolled up items at Lex's feet as he opened the door .
"Yes, though I still don't know why."
"My dad keeps tight reins at the farm, especially on where everything is, so I couldn't sneak out my own sleeping bag."
"A likely story, so where are you taking me?" Lex asked in mock suspicion, getting into the truck.
"You'll see." Clark sighed. He started the engine, afterwards he adjusted a small black button turning the radio on.
Lex glance at Clark's profile, his jaw was set. Clenched tightly in thought. They drove in to the woods south of Crater Lake. Stopping the car, Clark got out.
"Lex, would you come with me to the back?"
Lex nodded silently, they walked around the truck to the rear. Clark climbed over the door of the open truck.
"What's going on back there?" Lex said tossing him the rolled up packet.
Clark caught it. "Here take my hand."
"Thanks."
In the back of the truck on the floor, sleeping-bag was laid out on the on top of metal floor which had been covered, by what appeared to be hay. Clark then unrolled Lex's blanket.
"I wasn't sure if the floor would be soft enough for you to lay on, so I ended up over doing a bit," an apologetic Clark said to Lex.
"I see," Lex said as he sat down on the blanket. "don't you think we should take our shoes off, I wouldn't want to leave muddy tracks on the blankets?"
"Yeah, you're right," Clark began unlacing his boots. While watching Lex doing the same.
Lex jump over the door getting inside.
Clark followed, "The reason I brought you here is," he reclined on to his back silently giving Lex a sideward glance hoping he would follow suit. "I need to show you something."
Surrounded by the sound of the radio and chirping of crickets filling the night, they laid silently on their backs on the back of the truck, staring at the star-crusted night sky in silence. Stars whose light had travelled pillions of years to reach us, which we can still see even thou they had burnt out and died long time ago. A quarter moon added to the nocturnal ambiance. Among all this beauty a feeling of utter unease coming from Clark seemed to settled in the air. Lex had felt it during the drive to the woods and he still felt it now. The dark majestic woods surrounded the truck hiding them from view from the road inclosing the truck in darkness.
Clark finally spoke, "One of thing about you Lex is you have never been grounded by the obvious, you leave yourself open for the unseen." He took a deep breathe, "you know there's more to everything then what's on the surface."
"You romanticize me, Clark."
"I mean it Lex. Looking at the sky right now what do you see?"
"I see stars," he sighed, "I see you."
Clark smiled, "There you go romanticizing."
"Clark if you want to tell me something, do it. Whatever it is I can handle it I promise."
There was no turning back now, this time it was for real, "I come from up there. somewhere," Clark said reaching out taking Lex's hand. "because of that, I come do certain things that other people can't."
"Like getting hit by a speeding car," Lex said turning his head to face Clark, "and surviving?"
Swallowing thickly. "Yes." Clark said hair falling over his ears as he turned his head away from Lex.
"I see." Lex turned to his side as he let go of Clark's hand, while inching closer to him. Studying Clark's profile in the moonlight he ran the tip of his finger over Clark's nose, dipping it to trace his lip, then kissing him, "Do you want to give me specifics?" he whispered against Clark's lips.
"I think it might freak you out." Clark pulled away from him setting up. Silence settled except for the radio still softly playing in the front seat of the truck.
"Lex, please say something." Clark said in a strained voice.
"Clark. I love you."
"I love you too." There was no question about it.
They traded slow indolent kisses they were quite for a moment weighing what they both had finally admitted to each other. The radio could be heard in the front. A song spilled out the old speakers, the sounds of string guitar and a melancholy voice took over that space and time, filling it to the brim.
"After all these years I you still haven't grown"
Such a mission, letting go."
You amber jewel. Honey, your heart is wrapped in stone."

Have you ever loved someone so much that you didn't care what happened to you? Like everything else is nothing but a blur of black and white and he's the only thing in colour? When he walks into the room your heart thuds so painfully in your chest that you might die from the sheer excitement of his proximity? Have you ever spent your nights dreaming about that person waking up to cry from utter frustration that they aren't with you? The whole time you know that is not normal to feel that way? But you still feel it. A chance encounter can change your whole life the romantics say. I remember how when he speaks to me he looks at me with his haunting eyes. It's strange almost as if looking at myself through dark, stained-glass. Fragile and breakable. Yet strong at the same time. A contradiction, sort of like himself. To me he is like a grape. Translucent and naked. Covered by nothing but smooth skin. I wonder what it feels like to be so exposed. Is he cold? I feel cold sometimes, and when I'm on the edge of despa ir his smile always manages to bring me back into the light. I want to be with him so badly my skin aches. It continues physical pain that is always there. His is the only one who has the power to put an end to it. My heart feels heavy in it's confinements of amber. My heart could have been a mosquito resting in the shade of a leaf when a drop of tree sap fall on it. Trapping it. That's how it feels like sometimes. When I crept into the fine line between addiction and obsession, I stop being my self as went into a all-consuming consciousness of continually insatiable need. I stopped living, it's was like nothing else matters, except him. It.s always him. Lex.

Lex had skulked out of the mansion in the dead of the night to meet his underage, farmboy lover. Victoria knew as long as she had the golden ticket, Lex would never leave her it wasn't possible. What most people don't understand about her is that she really is observant. She had seen how Lex voice got hitched when he spoke about his father. That time they had spent the weekend with her baby sister and niece in Prague, how animated Lex had been with those brats. She knew then that Lex would be great father and would do anything to give his child a better upbringing then the one he had never had. Victoria smiled in the dark, even if that meant that he wouldn't marry that child's mother. It better be a boy, she couldn't bare to compete with another female for Lex's affection. Already competing with Clark was a fucking drag, it seemed as if he was the one person that Lex really loved. At first she had denied it to herself, but the more she was around them the more she felt the energy between them. The first time she met Clark she remembered the expression that he had when Lex and announced her name and how she would be living with him. The hurt in Clark's eyes. And the hatred directed at her for daring to be with Lex when Clark obviously had designs on him. Maybe some directed to Lex, too. For being with her when Lex could be with him. Knowing that her presence at the mansion hurt Clark had been-what's the word.satisfying. Then somehow Clark won Lex over somehow and now she was only kept at the mansion because of the child. There had to be a way to destroy Lex's slavish devotion to that boy. Victoria had always known Lex was inclined to men, but it was always merely sex. What could Clark Kent possibly have that the average John Soap didn't? She and Lex were so much more that, she could offer Lex the one thing that Clark couldn't. A child.
Yes, latex was fragile, especially with the help of the prick of a needle's point. Victoria walked over to her dresser where she picked up a old photograph of Lex and her, in the good old days. Taken in Milan the wonderful summer before she matriculated at Meris Stellar Academy for Girls. "Victoria and Lex," she whispered, co-conspirators in the living night. Friends and lovers. Before some backwater small town hicks and warped his mind, making him feel things that the old Lex would never have felt. Tracing the outline of Lex's smiling face with a scarlet nail she whispered, "You will love me."

The beauty of the stars held no allure when the time spent gazing at them could be replaced with kissing Clark Kent. Lex ran his hands underneath the plaid shirt Clark was wearing feeling the warmth of his skin. Clark raised his knee to hoisting Lex's body closer against him. Lex began to unbutton Clark's shirt, pausing to kiss the smooth panel of golden skin that was revealed. Clark groaned loudly and pulling Lex up to kiss him. Oblivious to everything except the taste of Lex's mouth, the feel of Lex's body. Knowing that he would probably do anything and everything just to be like this with Lex. Lex pulled away to take the long-sleeved shirt he was wearing. His skin glowing in the moonlight.
Clark said resting on his elbow pulling Lex on top of him. Lex fall on him pushing his tongue against his lips while pulling at Clark's pants. Clark gripped the back of his head pulling down towards deepening the kiss pulling back to say, "Lex, do you have er.any." he trailed off, to burying his head against Lex's neck.
Latex is so fragile.
"Clark, I didn.t bring anything with me, I didn't want you to think that I expected anything to happen." Lex answered his eyes dark because the lack of light.
"Do you want to stop?" Clark said looking up at him.
Lex has always been so vi-gor-ous .
"Do you?" Lex said sitting up slightly between Clark's legs. "What do you want, Clark?"
He can make come so hard you feel like you are dying. Like every cell in your body is breaking apart.
All Clark wanted was to shut out Victoria's voice in his head. Shut out all her spiteful taunts. "No Lex." He began to unbutton Lex's shirt off taking it off. The cool night breeze running up his shoulders. He stared up at Lex's bare chest, Lex's skin was covered in goose bumps, this fascinated Clark for some reason. "Are you cold?" he said rubbing on Lex's arms.
Lex's hands dropped to Clark's belt buckle undoing it, "Not anymore." He pulled it off. Clark sat up quickly undoing the buttons on his own shirt. It was tossed carelessly aside. "Lay back." Lex said nudging him on to his back. Now in his boxers, Clark fall onto to his heels.
Using the tips of his fingers only, sliding over Clark's chest the area that laid directly over his heart. There was strength there, something Lex hadn't noticed before. There also desire there, all in the way Clark quivered silently as Lex touched him. "You make me so reckless."
Every word, every touch had Clark shuddering. He wanted to get to the floor, drag Lex down with him. Let Lex do whatever he wanted. This scared the hell out of him, how much he wanted it. How much control he was willing to let Lex have over him. "Lex," he mumbled pressing tiny kisses across Lex's shoulders before snuggling against his neck, "in the corner under the blankets I brought um, stuff just in case.you didn't."
Lex pulled back sitting up, he got up to the far corner, just as Clark said there was what appeared to be a box condoms and small round bottle of lubricate, "You planned this?" Lex asked surprised.
"I wanted to tell you about me before anything happened. Risking the fact that you meant be freaked out afterwards."
"You thought I would reject you?" Lex said.
"I don't know, Lex. Two months ago you broke my heart. It's like I didn't know you-"
"Clark's that was before, if me giving you more time to think things over will prove I'm serious this time around. Then it's okay."
"You don't have anything thing to prove to me. It's all the things Victoria, said about you made me feel like I'm missing out on something."
"Victoria?" He was going to regret asking this question but he needed to, "What did she say to you?"
Clark pulled a blanket over his head mumbling under it, "She said that, you are a great lay."
"So you brought me here," Lex said snatching the blanket off Clark's head, "to see if it's true?" The look in his eyes was unreadable.
"No! It's not like that," Clark said "I wanted to be with you. But we have to be honest with each other for a change."
He crawled over to Clark dropping by his side "So what do you want to know?"
"Have you been with her since...we?" Clark asked picking up the blanket off his head throwing it around Lex's shoulders.
Taking it, "No," Lex said. "After we fooled the first time, I caught her spying on us. I knew it then, and she knew it too, that I what ever is between us, what she was seeing was just the tip of the ice-berg."
Clark went completely still, there was no way Lex was saying what he thought he was saying. "Lex, you should have told me...first. I would have forgiven you. I wouldn't have spent the passed two months in limbo."
"It was hell for me too." He leaned towards, "Clark, I'm so sorry." Lex said pushing his mouth against, before he said "My father didn't provide me with a good foundation by example, on how to treat the people, especially people I love the most."
"You just treat them with care and," Clark said kissing Lex's neck "then you smother them."
"I always smother the people I love."
"Yeah?" Clark said brushing his lips against Lex's collar bone, "Prove it."
Lex crawled over him, half straddling Clark's lap, circling his arms around Clark's neck. While Clark's hands crawled up his back. Lex slowly kissed him, tracing Clark's bottom lip with his tongue. Gently nibbling on his lips. Rocking his hard on up against Clark's stomach. "Take off your boxers, I want to look at you."
Clark put his right hand on his boxer's and his left hand on Lex's pants, hooking his thumbs on the waist band of each, he began to drag down the fabric simultaneously, using his calve muscles to balance Lex on top him and strip Lex and himself at the same time. "Is that all you want?"
"Lay back," Lex said pushing against him "and find out."
Following Lex's command, Clark got on his back, very naked and willing. After all it was easy enough for both of them to fall back into old habits and patterns of before, that Lex has set up for both of them. But it was different this time, this time around there would be no lies, no more bullshit. Was that promises they both could keep? Or were they deluding themselves? Lex stood up over him, he paused for the longest time studying Clark laying at his feet. Looming above Clark, all silken cream skin, that looked like it was poreless, he looked like some sort of sexual neophyte.
"You are staring at me and it is embarrassing." Clark said turning his face away.
Lex sat down then getting on top of him, I want to refine to memory every line every angle. Whispering against Clark's neck. "I want you to remember this night forever, I want to make it perfect for you Clark, because you deserve it."
"I just want you, Lex, just you."
Trailing kisses down Clark's chest which heaved with each breath he took, Lex left a wet path leading to Clark's naval. Lex swirled his tongue against the hollow button of flesh. His nose pressed down against Clark's abdomen.
"Lex." Clark said, reaching down to him. Pulling Lex up to him, by the face, kissing him. "God, you feel so good." Twisting up wards, hip arcing up, pleading against Lex, murmuring then really talking. Their teeth clinked against each other as they kissed, Clark holding tightly the back of Lex's head. Encircling his arms around Lex's shoulders.
It was incredible, Lex hadn't even started with him, yet Clark was just gone. It was just too good for words. Pulling away from Clark's grasp Lex slipped from Clark arms, as he retreated back down the long limbs Intending on marking every inch using his own come as special patent. Knowing well enough that Clark would let him, without question. Pulling Clark's knees up, Lex's sharp teeth raked a path down his body, a small bite to the inside of one thigh. He couldn't help but smile when Clark's legs twitched.
Forcing his lungs to work as Lex's tongue painted broad strokes on down his body, Clark closed his eyes. Trying to keep the pleasure, from shredding right through him. Every word, every touch, from Lex was unappeasable to him. Lex wet tongue was warm against Clark's opening. Pushing inside him. Clark welcomed it, welcomed all the feelings.
"It has just turned 1:00 and you are listening to The Locomotion at Five FM, ninety five point five. I'm Sasha Cole taking you through the early morning. We have some swell sounds for you..." the radio played softly in the front seat.
Lex griped Clark's hip bones, nature's perfect handles. He flicked his tongue slowly in and out, he head was bent down, his nose pressed tightly against the dark curls. He was so humbled that Clark trusted him enough to let go. He could feel the cool night air running down his back.
"Please Lex.please," he had no idea what he was pleading for. His eyes fluttered shut as he could feel the tension crawling from his spine. "God!" A half scream escaped his lips as his come spluttered over his abdomen. Some on Lex's face. Clark got up on his elbows.
Sitting up, Lex searched blindly around for the box of condoms. He found it under a blanket. He took out one tearing at the foil wrapper with his teeth, turning around to Clark, who was staring up at him with a dazed look in his face, beads of sweat had formed around his lips. He put it on.
"God I love you, Lex." Clark said sitting up reaching for him.
Lex straddled his hips while pushing him backwards. Rubbing up against Clark's abdomen. "You too."
Hint taken, Clark widen down his knees allowing Lex finger's access. He biting down on his lips to keep from screaming when Lex slip a finger against his prostate.
Lex draw them back, to use two. Lex took his time, loving the small whining sound that come from Clark as he thrust them back and forth. "Ready?" he whispered with drawing his fingers. He picked up the tube of lubricate.
"Ready." Clark replied, watching Lex nod then squeeze the sticky gel on his fingers.
Lex coated himself with it. Wondering how long he could make it last for the both of them. Lex wished he could drenched them both in ecstasy float them with feeling until they both couldn't stand it. Lining up half kneeling. He pushed into Clark's body.
When Lex finally enter him, it was like nothing he had ever imagined. He laid dead still under Lex, he wasn't quite sure what to do.
"Clark, move with me, you have to move with me," Lex whispered when Clark shifted beneath him, "yeah, own it, just own it."
Wrapping his legs around Lex's waist, he began to match Lex's rhythm it was easy enough to find it, pulling Lex down on him, till they were nose to nose. His eyes wide and searching into Lex's. Each impetus thrust, Clark could feel it everywhere, each thrust brought them closer, so close. With each movement Lex would push against him from the inside him, Clark could feel Lex's heart through Lex. He could feel each beat it made and he could feel Lex's blood running via it's veins. With each long slow thrust, Clark could hear the come gather inside Lex's balls. He could smell their bodies scents mix into one. It was like his body was becoming hypersensitive to Lex's body, turning into a permeable map, taking each stimuli from Lex. Sealing the connection between them. Into a new level.
"Clark." Lex whispered, he was so close to the edge. Placing wet kisses on Clark neck, that were steadily becoming frantic. The pale moon above intermittent light off their sweat slicked bodies and it was so exquisite, Lex wondered how they had been without each other for so long. He wondered, how they had stayed sane with out each other. "I love you."
"Lex." because that was all Clark can manage before his orgasm hit him, and did it hit him. Knocking the air right out of his lungs, his muscles tightening turning to liquid right under Lex's body.
Clark coming all over him all warm and sticky, triggered Lex to come. Pushing his tongue passed Clark's lips. Wishing he could stay like that forever. Wishing he didn't have the reality and consequences of what he had done, and what he would continue to do, push into his thoughts. He could feel the cool sweat down his back, as he finally rested his head against Clark's shoulder.

I don't what is it that compels me to him. Who knows what it is that attracts us to those we stalk, I guess in the end it's all about sex. Sexual desire is why the main reason I compelled to do what I do. To go to the brink of ecstasy and not return, to the hilt. To tell Lex: Don't stop! I guess with desire arise a certain level of fierce obsession. I'm like an addict who's mind can't keep in check a body who craves some type of external stimulus just to feel normal. I'm the one who would die for him. I know in the dark rivers of my heart that I would kill to be with him. I'm not going to sit idle while everything I've worked for is ruined. In a single day hundreds of people look at me, but he is the only one who truly sees me. I've loved him for so long, I can't remember how life was before he became a part of my life. Did the sun shine as brightly? Did chocolate taste as velvety? Without him, life wouldn't be worth living. Without him, I'm a shell. Hollow all the way to the bone. Empty.

The twin white headlights of Kent's truck crawled up the driveway of Luthor mansion.
"So here we are," Clark said as he parked by the gate at Luthor mansion, "good morning, Lex." He glanced at his wrist watch it was three o' clock.
"Yeah, good morning." Lex got out the truck, God he needed to shower.
"Goodbye." Clark adjusted the review mirror he could see car in the distance. "See you?"
"Yeah," Lex leaned in against the window to kiss him. "Love you."
"Me too."

Victoria woke suddenly, for the first minute she lay in the darkness with her eyes staring out into the dimly lit wondering what it was that awoke her. The alarm clock glowed 3:11 am a dark red illuminating, the table top in which it lay. Victoria turned to lay on her back, wondering if Lex was back yet from him late night rendezvous. Her hand drifted to lay on her stomach. Squee Victoria sat up, alarmed. What is that sound? Pushing the duvet off her she got up and turned on the bedside lamp. There was nothing in the room after a few moments of sitting, curiosity got the better of her she made her way to the door. She held on firmly the door knob hesitating about what to do, then pulled the door ajar and peered out into the darkness of the empty hallway opening it fully she began to make her way down the empty corridor her silver nightdress swishing around her ankles. The hallway was dark and seemed empty there seemed o be no cause for the awful, peculiar sound she had heard. She decided instead to get a glas s of milk from the kitchen navigating the long passage she came to stand just above the stairs that lead down to the dining area and once gain heard a sound, this time it sounded like it behind her as she turned at the top of the stair case. "Who's there?" Suddenly she felt hands on her back. The next thing she knew she was tumbling down the wooden stairs. Her whole body bumping up and down the wide stair case. She screamed covering her face with her hands as she saw the bottom of the stair rushing towards. No, was her final thought as the nothingness enveloped her.
A the loud scream jerked Mrs Mercola awoke. Startled she abruptly got up from bed she wondering whether to alert security or to go investigate herself. Deciding on the latter she followed the source of the pandemonium. The hallway was dark when making her squint trying to make out shapes. "Mr Luthor?" she called out. Approaching the staircase she froze. Something was on the floor, flickering on the light switch she saw that laying in a dark pool of blood was Victoria. "Miss Hardwick!" She screamed rushing to Victoria.
-20-
"Who's there." Victoria says. I hide in the shadows against the wall, so she won't see me. Look at her, prancing around the house like she owns it. Like she owns Lex. I feel my heart pound in my chest, pacing at a rapid tattoo that I swear she must hear me. But she doesn't. I'm at this moment I'm at a point of no return. I have to do this for Lex, for us. So there can be, an 'us' in the first place. I reach out using a great deal of brutal force to push Victoria. I hear her scream as she falls down the flights of stairs. My lips curve into a smile. But I can't take stay long to take the pleasure of watching the defeat of my nemesis. Victoria's scream are so loud, I fear that the mansion staff might soon arrive to see what is the cause of the commotion is. I can't risk being from out, I start running as fast I possibly can, soon there is nothing but the night sky above me and darkness. I let it embrace me.

Lights shown brightly, first blue then red. Then blue again. The feeling of motion, and somewhere from a great distance where voices. Victoria. They kept on saying things she couldn't make out. The light grew even brighter as it was shown directly onto her eyes. Blinding her, the voices where getting louder and more insistent, "Ms Hardwick." And then there was nothing.
When she gained consciences, once again she was washed in brilliant light. Some one was speaking to her. "Ms Hardwick, can you hear me."
She nodded.
"I'm Dr Scanlan, you're were in a ..accident and at the moment you are in the Smallville Medical Centre."
Victoria felt his hands on her's, "I don't know how to say this-"
No. Victoria thought. She snatched her hand away to place it on her stomach, "No!"
"I'm afraid the baby is-"
Victoria shook her head, "You don't understand. This is Lex's ba-"
Dr Scanlan said as very gently, "You lost the baby."
Tears welled up in Victoria's eyes, "You're lying."
"Victoria you're in shock. I know this is difficult-'"
Victoria began to scream, trying to hit him while kicking at the nurse who had been standing by the foot of the bed.
Mrs Mercola entered the room. "Where is Lex?" Victoria sobbed.
"He's coming," Mrs Mercola said reassuringly. "He went to call Mr K-"
When Lex barging through the door he was followed closely by Clark. "Lex . " Victoria continued to cry. Rushing to her side, Lex dropped to his knees by the bed, "Are you okay, Vic?" he choked. Dr Scanlan said to Lex, "I'm sorry Mr Luthor, Ms Hardwick suffered serve trauma to her uterus causing sever haemorrhaging so she might still be in shock. "
Lex closed his eyes and pulled Victoria into his arms.
"We lost our baby, Lex."
Clark watched silently he had never seen Lex look so utterly defeated before, so vulnerable. Suddenly he felt out of place and began to back away in the door's direction.
"What is he doing here?" Victoria demanded through her tears when she spotted Clark. "Get him out, I want him out!"
Lex spoke first, "Clark. would you?" With one last look at them, Clark left the hospital room, closing the door behind him. He stood for a moment, watching Lex through the glass holding Victoria. Clark saw them blur and vanish before him. When he stopped with his back against the elevators he realised he had been running backwards in super-speed.
-22-
"Victoria, is there anything that you can remember?" Sheriff Ethan asked. Victoria shook her head.
The sheriff then looked at Lex and said, "May I have a word with you." Lex got up, and whispered to Victoria that he would be back soon. Then followed the sheriff out of the hospital room.
"With Miss Hardwick having no recollection of the incident, we basically don't have much to go on. We have no indication of forced entry." Sheriff Ethan said. "All the evidence indicates that no one else was in the house at the time. Unless you can think of anyone who had any feelings of malice aimed at her, we have to close the case as an accident."
"Thanks for your time." Lex shook Sheriff Ethan's hand an walked back into the room. Victoria opened her eyes they were rimmed with red
"I'm sorry, Lex," she said.
"For what?"
"I lost the baby, I know how much you wanted this. Okay, maybe not at first. But later on I saw the look in your eyes when ever you spoke about it."
Lex leaned in to place a kiss on her forward, "Vic, I don't blame you for what happened. It wasn't your fault."
"I don't remember everything, but I do remember seeing the bottom and the stairs, all I did was try to protect my face, I should have tried to protect the baby. Lex, I should have rolled into a ball instead all I could think about was my face. How I couldn't live disfigured. What kind of person am I? Maybe if I..."
"You didn't know." Lex said.
Victoria closed her eyes, breathing in Lex's scent. "I just feel so..."
"So what?"
"Empty."
-23-
"I mean, what could anybody possibly stand to gain from Victoria losing the baby?" Chloe said. "She doesn't remember she what happened? The police suspect that she was pushed. Clark, you were there, what do you think?"
"Huh?" Clark looked up from the table at her. "What do you mean I was there?"
"Mrs Mercola said you came in with Lex that the Medical Centre when I asked her," Chloe said scribbling a down on to her notebook.
"I was showering at the time when Lex called me, by the time I left to head the SMC it was about three thirty."
"Why would you be showering at 3:30 am?" Chloe said putting down the pen, Clark had her complete attention now.
Clark stood up, " 'Cause I live on farm and we wake up at odd hours to do chores." he snapped.
"Oh." she said, hurt.
"Chloe, I'm sorry." Clark felt ridiculous for being mean to her.
"But I thought you said that you aren't friends with Lex any more?"
"We made up last night." Clark said without thinking. "I mean, we got over our differences."
"What-"
"Hey guys." Lana said walking into the Torch smiling brightly.
"Lana, hi." Chloe said to her turning to look at Clark, Chloe frowned when she noticed Clark wasn't paying attention to the entrance of the so called Love Of His Life.
Clark was staring at some distant stop on the wall. Deep in thought.
"Clark are you okay?" Lana said noticing him.
"Me? I'm fine, I'm perfectly fine," he replied, not glancing at her.
Chloe and Lana looked at each other.

Victoria stood at Luthor mansion, her pulled back in a tight bun, her face devoid of make up. "So I guess this is good-bye." Victoria said. Upon being discharged from the Smallville Medical Centre she had immediately called for Lex's staff to collect her luggage.
"What is it that they say, 'parting is such sweet sorrow.'" Lex said wryly.
"If it means anything, I do- I did love you," she said turning to face him.
"You had the most peculiar way of showing it."
"The driver is waiting so I better get going."
"Victoria, have about you take the LuthorCorp jet?" he asked.
"I think the long drive will be good for me." she said pulling on her scarf, wrapping it around her neck. Wouldn't that give you enough time to change your mind and stop me?
"Will you be returning to Metropolis?"
"I'm thinking of heading to Wales, some country air might be rejuvenating. I have something for you." She open her one of her suit cases pulling out a balk refuse bag, giving it to Lex.
"What is this?" Lex peered at it suspiciously while taking it.
"It's not in important any more, I what you know I never set out to hurt you." Victoria stepped towards and kissed him lightly on the lips and whispered "I hope he makes you happy Lex. Please bare in mind his is still a boy." She stepped back and walked toward the car, she stooped before getting inside, turning to give Lex a shaky smile. For a moment she reminded Lex, of the day he met her in London 1996, the girl she had been.
"How are you finding England so far?"
"The weather is an acquired taste."
Victoria had giggled. "Then I guess, I should better let you in on how we warm up." She had took his hands and placed them within hers. Blowing onto his palms, her eyes on him the whole time. In a room full of people at a charity dinner. He had stood there amused by all this, before her father had came charging at him and dragged her away.
Holding the bag in his hands, Lex watched the limousine drive away until it disappeared

"Victoria just upped and left, no complaints no name calling?" Clark asked.
"Yes, but she did leave me a parting shot," he said tossing Clark a black plastic bag.
Clark caught it, "What is this?"
"Your clothes."
"She took my clothes!" Clark said incredulous opening the bag "And the sheets! Why would she do that?"
"Your clothes have my seminal fluids, and the sheets have both our seminal fluids. So she took them to-"
"To use them against you in court." Clark added "She wanted to blackmail us."
"Yes, she knew I would protect you against anything especially the media."
"What made her change her mind?"
"Clark, I honesty don't know." Lex shook his head.
Hesitantly Clark said, "Lex, I want you to know I didn't want any of this to happen. Well, I did want Victoria out of our lives. But not like this. Not to the expense of the baby."
"Clark, I know you would never think anything like that." Lex sighed. "I guess this child represented an opportunity for me to extinguish my own childhood demons by being the best father I could possibly be."
"Unlike your own father?"
"Yes. I've always said I didn't want children, this situation actually taught me that I did."
"Lex I..." Clark stepped closer to Lex-
"Lex?" A voice called out. "Are you in?"
Lana walked in the study she glanced from Clark to Lex. "Lex, I heard what happen. I'm so sorry. She rushed towards them. "Are okay, is there anything I can do?"
"Lana, I'm coping, thanks anyway." Lex said was suddenly aware how close he stood near Clark so he subtly stepped away.
"I want you to know I here for you," she said. "You've always been there for me and now it's time for me to return the favour. She turned towards him. "You too, Clark. You're always there when I need you."
"I try to do my best." Clark retorted.
She looked from Clark to Lex. "Well I better be." she paused. ...leaving. Clark are heading to the farm, I noticed your truck wasn't here maybe we can ride back together in my car?"
Clark blinked, "Um, Lana. Really there's no need. I'll hang out here just a little longer." He glanced at Lex. "Lex I'm sure you don't mind?"
"Not at all." Lex said.
"I'll see you around," and with that Lana exited the room.

Millions stalks of corn and rushed past her each seemed identical as the one before. Lana couldn't remember the last time she had ever been so exhausted. It would have been nice to have Clark's companionship right now he had seemed so reluctant to leave Lex. Finally after what seemed like hours she arrived home, it seemed from the darkened windows that Aunt Nell was already in bed, thank goodness, the last thing she needed right now was an interrogation about where she had been most of the night. She could hear a cock crow far off in the distance, and already the sky was starting to turn less inky and more purple. A quick look at her watched confirmed the time. Nearly six AM. After letting herself in she walked up to her room.
My plan worked.
"Our plan worked."
Did you make sure Victoria didn't see you?
"Yes, she didn't see me at all."
Good girl. You did Lex a favour getting rid of that BITCH from his life. She probably fell pregnant deliberately to trap him into marriage to get her grubby hands on his money.
Lana nodded.
Soon Lex would send Victoria packing and everything would go back to normal, like before. Except...Clark. What exactly had she walked into at Lex's office? Lex and Clark where close, like brothers. Maybe that would explain it. But she still had an uneasy feeling at the pit of her stomach. Lex and Clark couldn't be-
No. Remember those pitiful longing his stares he gives you? Clark adores you.
Lana smiled, "Everyone adores me."
And we must keep it that way.
Lana stood still for a moment, "But Lex has never looked at me like that."
So what are you saying?
"All I know is that he and Clark where standing so close to one other. If I hadn't walked in, I think they might have kissed."
Lex and Clark? That certainly is an unforeseen twist in the plot. After all our hard work we can.t lose Lex to Clark.
Lana thought for a minute. "There has to be a way to find out what's going on between them."
But how?
"I don't kno-"
It was a rhetorical question, Lana. I'll think of something, I always do.
Leslie was always there when she need her. "I just want to be with Lex. I always have."
And you will have him. Lana Lang never loses. Never.
Lana smiled brightly then turned on her heels walking out. Leaving the room empty once more.
